Camarilla Points

AIQ Version:

Original article by Slawomir Bobrowski

The Camarilla point levels are dependent on both the time frame and the starting point. I asked the author how to determine where to start the analysis and he indicated that this was beyond the scope of the article and that he would provide this in a future article. In my code I provide for inputs that allow the user to set the start date of the analysis and also the length of the time frame. Each of the 10 Camarilla points can be added as custom single line indicators on the upper portion of the chart. Each can then be clicked on or off separately and one or more of the levels can be show on the chart. In Figure 1, I show the R4, R3, S3, S4 levels on a chart of DIA. The time frame interval was set to 25 and the start date was set to 1/14/2011. The code provided allows for a back test of the first support and resistance system described by the author under the heading “Market opens inside S3 – R3.”

Figure 1 – Four sets of Camilla points (R4-green, R3-white, S3-white, and S4-red) on a chart of the DIA ETF using a 25 bar time frame and a starting date of 1/14/2011.

  • Function: “CAMARILLA_POINT” a function that returns the Camarilla point level based on the time frame, type and look back to computation start point
  • Indicator plot: “CAMARILLA_SR1_IND” indicator code that plots the Camarilla levels for R4, R3, S3 and S4
  • System: “CAMARILLA_SR1” the system described by the author under the heading “Market opens inside S3 – R3” (note the system does not enter or exit on stops but rather enters or exits the next day at the open)

I set up a test session using the SP futures contract (Pinnacle data). In Figure 1, I show the Equity curve and underwater equity curve trading one contract from 1982 to 2013.
